EVACUATION DUE TO FIRE
The urgency of an evacuation, due to wild fires or grass fires, is determined on the immediacy of the threat to the community (life, safety, health and welfare). The Order to Evacuate will be issued by the Fire Chief, RCMP or Sustainable Development.
The residents of the community will be notified, of the evacuation, by an evacuation team that would comprise of members of the local authority, the RCMP and volunteers.
"EVACUEES WILL BE TOLD WHERE TO EVACUATE TO, NOT JUST TO EVACUATE.”
To prepare for a possible Evacuation consider the following:
Locate all family members and designate a meeting point outside the evacuation area, should an evacuation be called while separated.
Gathering essential items such as medications, eye glasses, valuable papers(e.g. insurance), immediate care needs for dependents and, if you choose, keepsakes (photographs etc.). Have these items readily available for quick departure.
Prepare to move any disabled persons and/ or children.
Moving pets and livestock to a safe area.
Monitoring news sources for information – RM Website, Television, Radio
Registration Centers will be opened to register all residents, it is policy for the residents to then proceed to stay with friends or family until the "all clear” has been issued to return.
Currently, there are two methods of alerting the community of a pending Emergency.
- The RM of Reynolds Website
- Alert Ready –"Is Canada’s National Alert system. It notifies Canadians of potentially life-threatening events. Alerts are delivered by television, radio, cable, satellites, smartphones and Websites during emergencies.”
